This week we saw lots and lots of heavy wind full of dust and wildfire smoke both from Oklahoma and eastern Arkansas being blown our way. Because of my asthma, I was forced to stay indoors for the better part of the week (grr-rr!) but I did manage to squeeze in a trail run on Tuesday where I spotted the first wildflowers of the year, trout lilies, springing up through the dead leaves alongside the trail. They always make me happy.
And then a mile later, a root reached out and tripped me up, sending me sprawling to the dirt, scraping my knee, bruising my hip and cutting my hand up. I felt obligated to let loose a few choice “Momma/Daddy” words as I checked my pockets to make sure everything was still where they were supposed to be.
I spent a couple days working on my food photography skills, something I also find therapeutic (and a lot less painful). I made a batch of grits, something that I think I was tricked into liking as a child, just the other day and ate the leftovers for lunch. My mom and I were talking about grits and biscuits and other types of Southern breakfast foods a couple years ago, and when I asked why she never made grits for us when we were growing up, she said that she just couldn’t find any in Kansas (where I grew up), otherwise she would’ve fixed them for us because she loved them, too.
I’m finding that I’m really enjoying these “Seven On Seven” posts. It makes the daily picture taking less stressful and not like a chore. It’s funny, but I also feel more creative and “opened eyed” to the world around me when I’m just taking pictures without feeling like it’s a project. It just feels more natural.
Oh! I also got a fresh new hair cut, making me a very happy camper!
Anyway, here are this week’s batch of pictures, and I hope you’re having a happy week.
